auscultation simulation

Cardionics celebrated the launch of their new website this week by providing HealthySimulation.com a sneak peak of the new auscultation products they will launching at January’s International Meeting for Simulation in Healthcare! From the next generation SAM (Student Auscultation Manikin), to a wearable shirt that allows for ausculation of low-fidelity or standardized patients, to a new and improved Classroom Infrared Emitter (CIE) and Heartman Headphone! Check out the leaked details below:

SAM, the Student Auscultation Manikin – 3rd Generation!

Not only is SAM getting a new look and app, but new case videos, real sounds library, Echo Cardiogram Videos, and ECG waveform for heart sounds! Sounds like (pun intended) there is a lot of new learning opportunities coming out with SAM3:

Case Videos contain patient and clinical interactions for various conditions. Users can watch a video and practice listening to the SAM for a life like simulation. Users can also create and save their own case videos.

  • The Real sound library contains sounds recorded from live patients.
  • Echo Cardiogram videos associated with various heart conditions are recorded from live patients.
  • An ECG waveform is displayed with various heart sounds to help identify S1.
  • New look externally and new software look
  • SAM Online – software has a new look and a new app is on its way.

What is SAM Online?

SAM Online is Cardionics interactive online system, which provides access to heart, lung, bowel and bruit sounds, all formatted online for private use 24/7. Students, instructors and practicing medical professionals are utilizing SAM Online for at-home study, online instruction and assessment of clinical auscultation skills.

The SimShirt System

The Sim Shirt is a garment worn by a Standardized Patient (SP) for simulating physiological conditions to test a student or examiner diagnostic and procedural skill. The shirt provides a second choice to wearing the RFID tags required by the Cardionic’ SimScope. Instead of wearing individual RFID tags adhered to bear skin tags are integrated in a shirt. The shirt is reusable and washable. Note this product is finishing development so some product enhancements may be different at launch.

The SimShirt System consists of the SimScope, SimShirt, and a tablet, and customers who already own a Cardionics SimScope can separately purchase the SimShirt or tablet only

New and Improved Classroom Infrared Emitter (CIE) and Heartman Headphone

The CIE is getting a brand new look and upgraded functionality! The Classroom Infrared Emitter is designed to provide simultaneous listening for a classroom or simulation lab full of students. Many institutions find value in utilizing the Classroom Infrared Emitter with high priced manikins and simulators, allowing each student greater interaction with the sounds of the manikin or simulator. You can now connect the CIE to two additional CIEs to increase room coverage! This is an increase from 30 to 90 students.
