Abstract:
In the fall of 2021 a Nursing Director, Clinical Professor, and Simulation Lab Manager took their first steps towards implementing UbiSim immersive virtual reality simulated nursing technologies into the BSN programs at the University of Memphis’ campus in Jackson, TN. The last three years have taught them a lot about how to pilot, use, and troubleshoot VR – as well as how to demystify, explain, and promote acceptance of this new simulation modality within the Loewenberg College of Nursing. Through the lens of their clinical simulation roles, the presenters will share how to plan, fund, deploy, and integrate VR simulation as part of an undergraduate clinical nursing program. Bring your burning questions and expect candid answers that will equip you to navigate your own VR journey in nursing education.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn how to get started with VR: From funding the purchase of VR simulation software to allocating space and staff resources.
- Understand how to troubleshoot and accommodate adverse faculty and learner reactions to VR utilization in clinical education settings.
- Learn how to overcome resistance to VR and gain buy-in from faculty and students to improve nursing education outcomes.
- How to utilize VR simulation to help students build clinical judgment and link didactic learning to quality of patient care.
