Abstract:
Unintentional and violence-related injuries, including suicide, homicide, overdoses, motor vehicle crashes, and falls, were among the top 10 causes of death for all age groups in the United States and caused nearly 27 million nonfatal emergency department (ED) visits in 2019. Everyone needs to know how to manage trauma. Until recently, trauma patient simulators have ranged from low-cost unrealistic dummies to high fidelity simulators, designed for hospital use, poorly repurposed to teach trauma. Additionally, the need for quality trauma simulation has expanded from the trauma bay and EMS system to law enforcement and lay person training.
TacMed Solutions (TMS) provides a range of interchangeable trauma simulation systems that can be mixed and matched to create a wide variety of casualties available at different price points. This presentation will compare and contrast TacMed Solutions Clinical Response Whole Body System and Whole Body EMITT Tactical Medical Active Shooter simulators. TMS instructors will be joined by current users to discuss how they are utilizing these capabilities to support law enforcement and other training. Special attention will be paid to the TMS rental program, making realistic trauma simulation available to a broad range of customers at affordable prices. Discussion will include mechanisms to fund capital investments in trauma simulation.
Learning Objectives:
- Compare and contrast moderate fidelity and high-fidelity trauma simulators.
- Understand how law enforcement and other users are utilizing these products in training today.
- Learn about the TMS rental program and other ways to increase access to quality trauma simulation.
