Paul Phrampus MD, FSSH FACEP
Director, WISER Center & Medical Director of Patient Safety at UPMC

Dr. Phrampus is the Director of the Peter M. Winter Institute for Simulation, Education and Research (WISER). He received a B.S. in Biology from Old Dominion University and an M.D. from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. He is a Professor in the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Anesthesiology of the University of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine. Dr. Phrampus is the Medical Director for Patient Safety of the UPMC Health System. He is an active member of the Quality Patient Care Committee of the UPMC Board of Directors. He is a fellow of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare and a Certified Professional in Patient Safety. Dr Phrampus has an appointment in the esteemed University of Pittsburgh’s Academy of Master Educators. Dr. Phrampus serves in a leadership role in national and international simulation efforts. He is a Past President of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. He is an inaugural member of the editorial board of the journal Simulation in Healthcare. In addition to the United States his education efforts have included institutions and hospitals in Australia, Costa Rica, Chile, China, Germany, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, , Norway, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Singapore, and Thailand. Dr Phrampus has extensive experience with computer system and electronics, interests that he developed during his seven years of service in the United States Navy.

Dr. KT Waxman is a national nurse leader and executive with extensive experience in healthcare and corporate settings. She is a Professor at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and is the Director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. She is also the Director of the California Simulation Alliance (CSA). In addition to her work at UCSF and the CSA, she is the Editor-in-Chief for Nursing Administration Quarterly (NAQ). An internationally known speaker and author, Waxman is also a past president of the Association of California Nurse Leaders (ACNL) and past board member, serving as Treasurer, for the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL).  She is a Past President of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH), a 5,000+ member international, inter-professional organization. Dr. Waxman's work has been published extensively and can be found in journals such as the Journal for Simulation in Healthcare, Clinical Simulation for Nursing, JONA, Journal of Nursing Education, NAQ, Nurse Leader and Creative Nursing journals. She has authored 3 books on Finance and Budgeting and the 3 rd edition of “Financial and Business Management for the DNP”, published by Springer will be out this Spring. She co- authored “Healthcare Simulation Program Builder”, is co-editor of “Comprehensive Healthcare Simulation: Nursing” to be published in 2022, and has authored several chapters in simulation and leadership textbooks. Dr. Waxman received her DNP from the University of San Francisco, with an emphasis on health systems leadership and a concentration in clinical simulation. She holds certifications as Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL), Certification in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP), Certification as a Simulation Healthcare Educator (CHSE) and is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN), the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (FAONL), and the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (FSSH).

Amar Patel DHSc, MS, NRP, CHSE, FSSH
Chief Learning Officer at CAE Healthcare

Amar Patel is a clinician, researcher, and renowned educator with a Doctorate in Health Science from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and a Master of Science in Emergency Health Services Education from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. He currently serves as chief learning officer at CAE Healthcare. Founder and past chair of the North Carolina Simulation Collaborative, Dr. Patel is a simulation expert and much-published key opinion leader with 60+ abstracts, articles and textbook chapter publications to date. Adam Cheng MD, FRCPC
Professor, Department of Pediatrics at The University of Calgary

Adam Cheng is Professor, Departments of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine at the University of Calgary in Calgary, Canada. As a scientist and researcher at the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute, he oversees a program of simulation-based research focused on improving outcomes from cardiac arrest. He co-founded the INSPIRE network, an international research simulation collaborative with over 250 institutions that has fostered the global dissemination of simulation-based research. He has served on the Board of Directors of both the Society for Simulation in Healthcare and the International Pediatric Simulation Society. He has provided leadership for various international simulation conferences and delivered lectures and workshops at conferences around the world. Dr. Cheng conducts research with interests in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and debriefing, and has led numerous multicenter simulation-based research trials. He has edited several textbooks and authored various American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation guidelines and scientific statements.

Suzan (Suzie) Kardong-Edgren PhD, RN, ANEF, CHSE, FSSH, FAAN is an internationally known speaker, consultant, and educational researcher with over 120 publications. Dr. Edgren was a consultant on the landmark National Council of Nursing National Simulation Study that determined that up to 50% of traditional clinical could be replaced with high quality simulation and will reprise that role again in the National Council Simulation Study 2.0. Dr. Edgren served as the Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Simulation in Nursing for 10 years; and is currently the Editor-in-Chief of 2 new interactive online review guides for those seeking certification in the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. She has been awarded both the National League for Nursing Deborah Spunt Lectureship and the Michael Gordon Lectureship in Simulation from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. Dr. Edgren served as chair of the Research Committee for the Society for Simulation in Healthcare and the Vice President of Research for the INACSL. She is a Fellow in the Society of Simulation in Healthcare, the Academy of Nursing Education Fellows, and the American Academy of Nursing. She recently completed a 16 month position as a nurse scientist in a large hospital system in Texas. Dr. Edgren is the President-elect of the International Nursing Association of Clinical Simulation in Nursing and an Associate Professor at the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston.

Ariana has been with the Patient Safety Movement Foundation (PSMF) since 2015 and is currently serving as Chief Operating Officer. Ariana graduated cum laude from Loyola Marymount University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Studio Arts. She worked at the University of California, Irvine’s Institute for Immunology for one year and left her post at UCI to pursue a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland in 2012, with a focus on oral immunotherapy for children with egg allergy. Ariana came back to California and spent time at the Orange County Healthcare Agency in the Health Promotion Division. She then seized the opportunity to work at Masimo Corporation, in the Fire and Emergency Medical Services sector, where she worked closely with marketing and sales to develop a Grant Assistance Program, helping Fire and EMS Departments procure devices to help them screen for carbon monoxide poisoning, among department staff and the public. Ariana volunteered at the Patient Safety Movement Foundation’s 2015 Patient Safety, Science & Technology Summit and knew that she wanted to step into a leadership role to support the Foundation’s audacious mission. Ariana developed the Strategic Partnership program for professional societies, associations, and other aligned healthcare-related orgs to work with the PSMF and has helped grow the number of committed orgs to nearly 5,000 across over 50 countries.

Crystal L. Murillo PhD, RN, CHSE-A
Assistant Professor and Director of the Center for Simulation and Experiential Learning at the University of South Carolina College of Nursing

Dr. Crystal Murillo is currently the Director of Simulation at the University of South Carolina College of Nursing and President of the South Caroling Nursing Education Simulation Alliance (SCNESA). In 2020, she successfully led her team to full international simulation accreditation through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare in the area of Teaching/Education. Dr. Murillo has been an adjunct faculty for Harvard Center for Medical Simulation since 2019. Both her Master’s and Ph.D. focus were on simulation as an educational intervention in programs of nursing. She has published her data-driven work in simulation in peer-reviewed journals. Additionally, she has presented her work in simulation locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. In a short two-year period, Dr. Murillo obtained over $1.1 million in funding to develop and deploy a standardized faculty training curriculum in simulation with the focus on the use of simulation to prepare social justice advocates for health equity. With this grant, she has currently trained over 70 simulationist in the state of South Carolina of which 5 have become nationally certified healthcare simulation educators (CHSE). Dr Murillo has had an administrative role in simulation at the College of Nursing since 2018 and has been involved in simulation since 2014. She has been recognized locally and at the state level for her contributions to simulation. Dr. Murillo was an invited speaker to the 2019 National Academy of Medicine

Senior Simulation Educator and Nursing Professional Development Specialist at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia

AnneMarie Monachino is a Senior Simulation Educator with the Center for Simulation, Advanced Education, and Innovation at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as well as a Nursing Professional Development Specialist at CHOP. As a pediatric nurse for 30 years, she has 13 years’ experience as a simulation educator and has taught simulation curriculum at an advanced level. She achieved her advanced certification as a CHSE-A in 2017. Dr. Monachino has published eleven articles on simulation-based activities as well as 2 chapters on Just-in-Time Training. Her numerous presentations at simulation and nursing conferences include Central Venous Catheter Dress Rehearsals, Medical Emergencies in the Primary Care Setting, Managing Difficult Learners and Disruptive Behaviors, Redesigning Your Simulation Activity Using an Escape Room Format, Human Systems Integration Analysis, and Building a Better Scenario. Elizabeth Hyman JD

Elizabeth Hyman is President and Chief Operating Officer of the XR Association (XRA), the trade association promoting the dynamic growth of the XR industry which includes virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed-reality, and immersive technologies yet to be invented. Dr. Desiree A. Díaz is an internationally recognized scholar, educator and Associate Professor at the University of Central Florida College of Nursing.
