Abstract:

This session will provide an overview of how two different colleges implement pharmacy simulation from a technical operations and safety standpoint. The three panelists will discuss the detailed implementation of pharmacy simulations at their institution and provide participants tools to implement similar simulation trainings at their home institution. Participants will then be provided lessons learned at each of the institutions and have the opportunity to share their thoughts on, or experiences with pharmacy simulation operations. The panel discussions will address the follow discreet topics:

1) development of trigger videos for pharmacy simulations to manage a large number of students;
2) integration of pharmacy management software into simulations;
3) use of demonstration medications in various pharmacy simulations;
4) operations of a sterile preparations simulation laboratory;
5) policies and procedures concerning technical operations and safety when working with pharmacy simulations.

Additional Presenters:

  • Liza Barbarello Andrews. PharmD, BCCCP, BCPS, CHSE
  • Les Barta, MPA, NRP, CHSE
  • Jennifer Beall, BCPS, CHSE

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe three simulation operation consideration considerations when designing and implementing pharmacy simulations.
  2. Summarize technical operation lessons learned from two pharmacy specific simulation examples.
  3. Identify one method to apply at your institution which is appropriate for their learners.
