Abstract:
The Veterans Health Administration — the nation’s largest and only fully integrated healthcare system — has long been hailed as a leader in both healthcare simulation, Telehealth, and patient safety. The VA’s leadership in this area has led to pioneering innovations in clinical care, teaching, and research. Now its combined expertise has been utilized to create effective models of care during the coronavirus pandemic.
In this highly acclaimed presentation, Suzanne Gordon will explain the critical actions the VA took to make patients and staff safe during the pandemic. The VA had none of the healthcare disparities that proved so fatal in the private sector system; it protected nursing home patients; and it mobilized its Fourth Mission to rescue civilian sector patients. Its lessons in pandemic management are critical to all in healthcare.
