Abstract:
It is safe to assume that healthcare will be different past the acute pandemic phase. The new normal will be a reaction to the safety threats we have seen and lived through: Patients suffered, and providers suffered. Societies suffered, which underlines again: Safety in healthcare has to be safety for all. Many of the things that can be made better have to do with how we prepare before and how we act during a crisis. Improvement can be expected to come through education and training, which will be delivered differently. Ideally, it will touch more caregivers, and more lives. Heroes are great but we should not have needed so many of them. This presentation explores potential new modalities and principles of education and training and, subsequently, delivery of care. The new meaning of simulation in a world after COVID-19 will be discussed. Also, new content, and the new target audiences that became visible in 2020.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the changing landscape of healthcare delivery.
- Understand the role of training and education to prepare for the new normal.
- Discuss how simulation can help to increase safety in healthcare beyond individual patients.
