Abstract:
As a university nursing professor and clinical preceptor, it can be challenging to sustain meaningful engagement with undergraduate students. Generation Z comprises the majority of traditional 4-year university undergraduate nursing programs. These students were raised with laptops, desktops, smartphones, smartwatches, televisions, tablets, and technology that provided constant stimulation and access to the world at their fingertips. The idea of conventional lecture makes them fidget and most prefer to be active rather than passive learners. Game-based learning, such as an escape room, is an innovative way to make learning fun, interactive, and engaging.
Escape rooms may sound like a complicated teaching endeavor, but this webinar will introduce you to the process of creating an escape room experience. Once you understand the basic steps, tools, and resources you will be able to build on your own scenario and add complexity. This webinar will demonstrate how five basic ideas drawn from your mastery of a clinical concept can evolve into an escape room. At the conclusion of the webinar, you will be provided with a list of all the resources to plan, organize, and implement your own escape room so you can begin unlocking innovation in your approach to nursing education.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will learn how to use escape rooms to engage nursing students.
- Participants will understand the steps for creating an escape room including various tools and resources.
- Participants will be able to design and implement an escape room using for nursing education.
