Abstract:
Debriefing is a cornerstone of medical simulation, yet the methodology remains an area that many educators approach with trepidation. In this CE webinar, participants will explore strategies to overcome common fears associated with leading debriefing sessions. We will delve into widely used debriefing frameworks, which include DASH, Plus-Delta, PEARLS, and others, to provide practical guidance for the effective selection and application of these tools. By breaking down the principles of debriefing, this session will empower educators to foster open, reflective, and psychologically safe environments for learners. Participants will leave with increased confidence in their ability to navigate challenging debriefing scenarios and create meaningful learning experiences in medical education and clinical training.
Learning Objectives:
- Differentiate between common debriefing frameworks such as DASH (Debriefing Assessment for Simulation in Healthcare), Plus-Delta, PEARLS (Promoting Excellence and Reflective Learning in Simulation), and others to understand the unique strengths of each
- Identify common barriers to effective debriefing, which include facilitator anxiety, learner resistance, and time constraints, and develop strategies to overcome these challenges.
- Apply structured debriefing frameworks to a variety of simulation scenarios to tailor the approach to align with the learning objectives and needs of the participants.
