Beginning her career as an ER nurse, Amy Cowperthwait found her niche when transitioning to simulation at the University of Delaware. A trach simulation gone awry led Amy to develop a wearable technology solution that could be worn by standardized patients to improve clinical realism and learning outcomes in simulation based education. She founded Avkin in 2015 after years of interprofessional research and development work on the wearable simulator pedagogy. In addition to her work with Avkin, Amy is also busy presenting her work through keynote addresses at regional, national, and international events.

Megan Weldon, CHSE, is a passionate and highly skilled professional in the field of standardized patient simulation. Megan’s expertise led her to manage the standardized patient program at the University of Delaware, where she played a key role in elevating standards and fostering excellence. Currently serving as the Director of Marketing and Education at Avkin, a leading organization in healthcare simulation, Megan actively drives their mission, by consulting with many institutions to ensure standards of best practice for standardized patients is met. Her fervent dedication to representing standardized patients and advocating for proper training and best practices has earned her respect as an influential voice in the industry.
