Abstract:

As a team effort Healthcare is made much harder when the team is dysfunctional. As such, Emotional Intelligence (EI) is required for both individual and group function, which accounts for a significant portion of what moves a clinical team from good to great. Individual knowledge about EI is often superficial, with focus on self-awareness, rather than self-management, social-awareness, and relationship management. This CE webinar explores emotional intelligence in healthcare teams, which can be better developed through the use of clinical simulation. The presenters identify the dimensions of Group Emotional Competence and reflect on how to develop each dimension, to improve team productivity through healthcare simulation.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Review key concepts around EI and its application to clinical teams through medical simulation.
  2. Identify 4 aspects of emotional intelligence that contribute to successful teams.
  3. Dissect real cases of healthcare teams to diagnose emotional intelligence issues for both individual team members as well as the group as a whole.
