This session will outline the steps on building a sustainable simulation alliance. The California Simulation Alliance (CSA) was formed after the success of the Bay Area Simulation Alliance in 2008. The purpose of the alliance is education, research and policy for their subscribers, and we have written white papers that are available for all. The CSA has 7 regional simulation collaboratives in the state and over 4,000 members. The model has been replicated in other states and countries and is sustainable with no grant funding as we have several revenue sources.
Debra Nestel is Professor of Simulation Education in Healthcare, Monash University, and Professor of Surgical Education, Department of Surgery, University of Melbourne, Australia. Debra is Editor-in-Chief, BMJ Simulation and Technology Enhanced Learning (STEL), the journal of the Association for Simulation Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH). She is program lead for the Master of Surgical Education (Department of Surgery, University of Melbourne and Royal Australasian College of Surgeons) and Master of Surgical Science (University of Melbourne) and Graduate Certificate in Clinical Simulation (Monash University). Debra leads a national faculty development program for simulation practitioners – NHET-Sim and a virtual network in Simulated Patient Methodology. She has received national awards for her work in healthcare simulation (Ray Page Award for service to the simulation community, Simulation Australasia and a Program Innovation Award, Australian Government) and a Presidential Citation from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). She has held many positions in professional associations across her career. Mainly a qualitative researcher, Debra has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers in health professions education, edited books on simulated patient methodology (2015), healthcare simulation (2017), surgical education (2019) and research methods for healthcare simulation (2019).
