Abstract:
To date, APN education has relied heavily on clinical experiences to demonstrate competency in patient management. Rigid requirements have limited the use of simulation for clinical replacement. Of late we have seen a change in sentiment. Nursing bodies such as NONPF and AACN are now endorsing time variable, competency-based education in advance of clinical experiences. Well-designed simulations offer consistent measurable educational opportunities that may not be achieved in the clinical setting (Lioce et al., 2020). These simulated experiences should prepare the learner to competently work through a client encounter or episodic visit. Sentinel U ® is excited to launch its new Advanced Practice Series™. This portfolio of 55 clients covers content areas such as typical or complex primary care visits of adults and children, geriatric encounters, women’s health, psych-mental health, oncology, and cardiac. This new virtual series allows learners to engage in an authentic clinical encounter while honing their diagnostic acumen and clinical decision-making.
Learning Objectives:
- Review trends in current APN education.
- Interpret recommendations from professional organizations such as NONPF & AACN for the use of simulation in APN education.
- Examine new technology to enhance clinical decision making available from Sentinel U.
