Abstract:
This CE presentation is geared toward novice and intermediate clinical simulation educators and healthcare simulation technology operations specialists. The focus of this session will be seeking inspiration for simulation-based educational (SBE) activities with an overview of best practices to session design. This session will teach the Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate (ADDIE) model of instructional design which will help educators select, develop, implement and evaluate topics for SBE. This will be followed up with a presentation of the Goal, Role, Audience, Situation, and Product (GRASPS) model for performance assessment design which lends itself well to establishing learner mindset for a simulation during the pre-brief. Taken together, these two tools can help clinical educators start SBE off on a solid footing and give direction to curriculum overall, improving outcomes for clinical learners.
Learning Objectives:
- Define the ADDIE model of instructional design.
- Define the GRASPS model for creating authentic performance assessments.
- Relate ADDIE and GRASPS to use in simulation based education session design and implementation, to improve clinical education and training outcomes.
