The 2024 election results have introduced significant political changes that will shape the country’s future. At Medical Shipment, our primary focus is understanding how these changes will impact nursing and education. To address these concerns, Medical Shipment took a proactive approach and coordinated a meeting with newly elected Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno and Wright State University President Susan Edwards. This HealthySimulation.com article will highlight the advocacy of this Medical Shipment supported meeting to advance healthcare education. Advocacy Between Elected Officials and Healthcare Education at Wright State University
During this advocacy meeting, Wright State Healthcare Leadership, Senator Bernie Moreno, BD and Medical Shipment representatives toured the Wright State University’s nursing simulation lab. An important conversation about the evolving needs of the nursing profession was initiated. One of the most important issues in nursing education today is access to technology. Fortunately, federal programs like the Perkins Grant and state-level funding such as Ohio’s Rapids grant have played a crucial role to increase the access to essential medical technology like the Pyxis Med Station.
The Role of Technology in Nursing Education
At Wright State University, the Pyxis Med Station is a valuable tool in the preparation of nursing students for real-world clinical environments. This cutting-edge technology replicates the systems used in hospitals to allow students to develop hands-on experience before they enter the workforce. Through the incorporation of the same equipment used in hospitals, nursing students transition seamlessly into their careers, which reduces training time and enhances patient safety.
The Pyxis Med Station plays a pivotal role to streamline medication administration, a critical component of patient care. With over a million nurses using Pyxis machines daily to dispense more than seven million doses of medication, this technology significantly reduces the risk of human error. By automating the medication retrieval process, Pyxis ensures that nurses can focus on patient care rather than administrative tasks.
Medical Shipment’s Commitment to Education
At Medical Shipment, access to advanced medical technology is not a luxury but a necessity. The partnership with BD has enabled Medical Shipment to bring industry-standard hospital equipment, such as the Pyxis Med Station, to over 300 nursing schools nationwide. Educational institutions equipped with cutting-edge resources ensures that future nurses are confident, capable, and well-prepared for the demands of patient care.
Through this collaboration, nursing students develop essential skills such as critical thinking, medication management, and patient safety all before they step into a clinical setting. When students train with Pyxis machines, they not only gain proficiency with hospital-grade technology but also improve their ability to prevent medication errors, the leading cause of clinical injuries.

A Transformative Impact on Nursing Education
The faculty at Wright State University emphasized how transformative the Pyxis Med Station has been for their nursing program. Nursing students now have the opportunity to practice real-world scenarios, which include potential medication errors and improvements in workflow efficiency. By training in a controlled environment, students build confidence and competency, making them better prepared for their careers.
The ability to simulate real-life medical situations using Pyxis technology is a game changer for both students and educators. Through hands-on experience, students develop familiarity with the same processes they will use in hospitals, ensuring they are practice-ready upon graduation. Additionally, Pyxis machines enhance safety measures by tracking medication dispensing, reducing errors, and preventing drug diversion.
Strengthen the Future of Healthcare
Senator Bernie Moreno acknowledged the significance of this initiative and recognized the impact that partnerships between private organizations and educational institutions can have on community healthcare. The investment in nursing education ultimately improves patient care standards and addresses the growing challenges in the healthcare sector.
Medical Shipment’s commitment to healthcare education extends beyond providing equipment. Medical Shipment is dedicated to fostering innovation and supporting institutions in their mission to produce highly skilled nursing professionals. As healthcare continues to evolve, Medical Shipment will remain at the forefront to ensure nursing students have access to the tools and technology they need to succeed.
In a world where healthcare challenges emerge constantly, the future of patient care lies in the hands of well-trained, technology-savvy nurses. Through partnerships and ongoing support, Medical Shipment helps to shape the next generation of nursing professionals who will make a lasting difference in the medical field.

Another Way to Advocate for Patient Safety
In March of 2023, a HealthySimulation.com article, Support U.S. House Bill HR 7591 to Establish A National Patient Safety Board (NPSB), highlights patient safety. H.R. 7591, landmark legislation, is a critical step to improve safety for patients and healthcare providers by coordinating existing efforts within a single independent agency solely focused on addressing patient safety in health care. The NPSB would be a nonpunitive, collaborative, and independent board within the Department of Health and Human Services to address safety in health care modeled in part after successful entities in the transportation industry.
The NPSB’s data-driven solutions would prevent harm before harm occurs and reduce the burden on frontline teams. The NPSB would aggregate and analyze existing patient safety data collected across HHS agencies to gain national insights. No government entity is tasked with looking at patient safety nationwide; NPSB would fill this gap. A coalition of over 90 leading healthcare organizations and stakeholders is on board.
