(CE) Virtual Simulation by-Proxy (VSbP): Alternatives to In-Person Simulation-based Hospital Training for Graduate Nurses : This CE webinar will show how a hospital-based clinical simulation program supported the transition to a virtual delivery methodology for a Nurse Residency Program during COVID-19. Background: Amidst the 2020-2021 COVID-19 pandemic, the Memorial Hermann Nurse Residency Program (Transitions to Practice Program) shifted to an entirely virtual content delivery platform (Zoom). In-person simulation-based training (SbT) in the System Clinical Education simulation center (MH SHINE: Simulation for Healthcare Innovation & Excellence) halted, and the need arose to continue facilitation of immersive SbT to augment didactic learning while in a virtual environment. Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of Virtual Simulation by-proxy (VSbp) as a viable SbT delivery methodology for hospital-based nurse residency programs. Methods: A QI project was conducted to implement a VSbp as an alternative to in-person simulation-based training (SbT) utilizing a high-fidelity simulator. Results: Results utilized to facilitate continued development and implementation of immersive SbT for the Memorial Hermann nurse residency program and other hospital-based simulation activities. Practice Implications: Implementing an immersive SbT methodology utilizing a virtual platform such as VSbp may foster continued development of the graduate nurse’s critical thinking while providing an engaging learning experience. Expanding the scope beyond the nurse residency program into the clinical hospital setting may support increased participation in SbT.

(CE) How to Create Low-Cost Asynchronous Virtual Simulation for Graduate Level-Nursing Students : This CE webinar will explore the application of a low-cost virtual simulation for Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students as an effective way to teach non-technical, leadership skills by combining available technology and resources. Technology of low or no cost solutions were used to create an immersive experience that allowed students access to a timeline of critical events, recorded video interviews, and a live interaction with the family member. In the simulation, the DNP students function as hospital leaders in communicating medical error to a patient’s family member. The National League for Nursing Student Satisfaction and Self-Confidence in Learning’s survey was used to measure outcomes. The majority of students reported the teaching method was effective and motivating and covered critical content necessary for the mastery of advanced practice nursing.
