The SimNewB simulator is designed in collaboration with the American Academy of Pediatrics to help improve neonatal resuscitation and to meet the specific learning objectives of Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and stabilization protocols. Focusing on the first 10 critical minutes in a newborns life, SimNewB provides realistic training for critical interventions and team communication. Most infants transition from in utero to breathing on their own at birth without assistance. But approximately 4% -10% will need some assistance with first breaths. Failure to initiate and maintain normal breathing is one of the 4 leading causes of neonatal deaths. By improving the competencies of our healthcare providers and novice learners we can ensure better outcomes for our smallest and most vulnerable patients. Consider more of the crucial statistics surrounding the “Golden Minute” with this infographic from Laerdal below:
The new SimNewB from Laerdal with its anatomically realistic airway and improved functionality facilitates critical skills development and vital communication and team training, which can help ensure learners acquire the necessary skills to treat compromised newborns struggling to breathe. With enhanced realism, quality CPR feedback and tetherless design, SimNewB continues to meet the expanding needs of neonatal resuscitation.
SimNewB Can Help Learners Improve Patient Outcomes
- Meet specific learning objectives of the Neonatal Resuscitation Program
- Facilitate training in advanced airway management – anatomically accurate airway, opening breaths and ventilation feedback
- Infant assessment allowing students to make informed decisions regarding algorithm pathway as required within the first 10 minutes of life
- Enable healthcare providers to simulate neonatal care in motion with the new tetherless design for in-situ and transport training
Operation and Debriefing Options for SimNewB
Scenarios: Scenarios based on the Neonatal Resuscitation Program from the American Academy of Pediatrics help learners prepare for those critical situations mirroring real-life critical events before ever having to respond to an actual emergency. Laerdal also offers help to develop scenarios tailored to your specific needs. Together with your clinical subject matter experts, our educational experts can develop scenarios that support standardized delivery for improved learning outcomes and clinical impact. Laerdal will also support you in implementing these scenarios in your institution.
