Meticulously Crafted Child & Maternal Health Solutions for Safer Beginnings

Meticulously Crafted Child & Maternal Health Solutions for Safer Beginnings

Healthcare professionals are highly trusted by the public, so when parents anticipate a birth, they expect their care team to provide the best possible outcomes. According to the World Health Organization, mothers and children who lack quality care at or immediately after birth in the first 28 days of life often fall short of wellbeing expectations. Without access to vital education, care is likely to be inconsistent or uncoordinated, leading to an increased risk of mistakes and poor outcomes. Through targeted training, HealthStream enhances staff efficiency, and ensures seamless coordination and communication among healthcare teams. This HealthySimulation.com article will review HealthStream’s suite of Child and Maternal Health solutions.

Maternal and Perinatal Care

HealthStream recognizes the importance of standardized care, ensuring that every mother and perinatal receives consistent, high-quality support, regardless of their location or circumstances. By focusing on monitoring, remedying, and decreasing adverse outcomes, HealthStream’s targeted online training enables healthcare providers to safely navigate the complexities of childbirth with confidence and expertise.

  • Quality OB: HealthStream’s Quality OB program proves that with a focused, data-driven instructional program, better results can be achieved. In fact, clients using Quality OB experienced a 22% decrease in negative events from the national average. Quality OB helps health systems meet standards mandated by The Joint Commission and other accreditation agencies.

  • OB Safety SIMS Toolkit: The Quality OB Safety SIMS program was strategically developed to offer frequent, simulated training, which can be practiced with minimal equipment on a Labor & Delivery unit where these serious emergencies occur.

Neonatal Care

HealthStream’s comprehensive neonatal educational solutions are specifically curated to address the unique challenges faced in neonatal care. HealthStream and their strategic partners equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to handle complex situations with confidence and precision.

The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program 7th Edition Online Course: S.T.A.B.L.E. is the most widely distributed and implemented infant pre- and post-resuscitation stabilization program worldwide. The program targets the first month of life with the strongest emphasis on the first few weeks after birth. S.T.A.B.L.E. is an evidence-based approach to the assessment and evaluation of all infants, as well as the immediate management of sick infants. The mission of the course is to provide evidence-based, effective education to:

  • Reduce infant mortality and morbidity
  • Improve neonatal outcomes
  • Improve the quality of life for infants and their families

The mnemonic S.T.A.B.L.E. stands for the six assessment and care modules in the program:

  • Sugar
  • Temperature
  • Airway
  • Blood Pressure
  • Lab Work
  • Emotional Support

As the foundation for an organized approach to infant stabilization and care, Kris A. Karlsen, PhD, APRN, NNP-BC, FAAN, National Program Director, Author, and Founder of The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program, envisioned that every member of the perinatal healthcare team can and should participate in the S.T.A.B.L.E. Program. Now, with the flexibility to access the S.T.A.B.L.E. Program 7th Edition online through HealthStream, caregivers can reinforce their knowledge and critical thinking skills through a dynamic, case-based learning experience.

S.T.A.B.L.E. Foundations

This new module is a pre-requisite to the S.T.A.B.L.E. learner course. Dr. Karlsen states this course was created to provide foundational maternity and neonatal information for a broad range of learners and is particularly helpful to onboard new staff who to perinatal services. S.T.A.B.L.E. Foundations will help build a solid knowledge base before staff with limited exposure to perinatal care proceed to the rest of the program.
