Abstract:
Researchers Lisa Paganotti, Greg Gilbert and Ron Shope in consultation with the SimGHOSTS board distributed a survey targeted at current healthcare simulation technology specialists (HSTSs). This survey collected information during the spring of 2021 to give a better understanding of the current workforce in this specialty. This discussion will review prior work in this field, including the first publication looking at the work and job readiness of the HSTS by Baily et al. in 2015, and a more recent publication from Tranel et al. in 2021 about organizational and operational trends among U.S. simulation centers. The discussion will then allow for commentary about the new data presented and describe trends that are anticipated in the field of healthcare simulation operations.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify prior literature that describes the origin and need for the HSTS specialty and professional development within this role.
- Review current information about simulation operations and the simulation technology specialist role.
- Describe trends in simulation operations and needs for healthcare education.
