Abstract:
This presentation describes on-going research of the speaker on computerized (VR-based) medical simulation, with clinical applications ranging from neurological and orthopedic surgery to obstetrics and geriatrics, as well as physiology simulation applications, while emphasizing innovations in anatomical modeling so far (segmentation of medical images and meshing), while surveying open-source software resources relevant to anatomical and therapeutic/functional modeling, broadly defined, as well as haptics. The survey will also cover recent trends, including the application of deep neural networks to various types of models. Time will be left for questions and possible collaborations with participants.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the main model types in computerized medical simulation.
- Review relevant open-source software tools in computerized medical simulation.
- Anticipate research opportunities in medical simulation.
