Abstract:
Medical Extended Reality (MXR) Technology within the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) has been used for numerous endeavors throughout the enterprise over the last decade. Like many healthcare organizations, many teams worked within silos and there was no clear path to start new MXR endeavors. By exploring current MXR use cases within CHOP, starting the CHOP XR workgroup, integrating key stakeholders, and inviting teams to share their barriers along with their successes, CHOP has been able to integrate these projects into their Digital & Technology Services network and deploy sustainable MXR programs.
Keith Widmeier, Simulation Immersive Technology Educator at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, spearheaded this exploration and worked with Digital & Technology Services to help integrate this emerging technology into the enterprise. Tasked with assessing the potential, Keith delved into the considerations and hurdles of integrating Extended Reality (XR)/Virtual Reality (VR) technology. Throughout his journey, he gained insights into navigating connectivity challenges, ensuring accessibility, and more. In this webinar, Keith will share his findings, covering the integration complexities, technology deployment systems, and operational necessities as well as discuss how this journey can translate into XR integration within other healthcare systems and higher education institutions on an enterprise level.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the complexities of integrating XR and VR technology into an existing hospital network.
- Learn a holistic approach to scoping, testing, deploying, managing, and scaling hardware and content for clinical training technologies.
- Review how to navigate third party hardware production and support timelines to anticipate supply chain challenges and maintain clinical training program operational flexibility.
