POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine is currently seeking a Simulation Operations and Research Manager to join our team of professionals.

Duties Include:

  • Coordinate the scheduling of simulation training programs among users by working with department leadership to establish priorities and maximize operational time.
  • Assist in scheduling and coordinating of all medical student Promotional OSCEs (Objective Student Clinical Examinations).
  • Learn and master the simulation software (EMS ¿ Educational Management Solutions) that centralizes simulation center scheduling, inventory, assessment tools and collection of assessment data.
  • Assist with data entry involving the conversion of current assessment tools into the EMS system to develop a paperless assessment system.
  • Work with the director of simulation and director of educational assessment to report OSCE data collected within the EMS system statistical software packages
  • Manage and clean data sets using statistical software packages, such as SPSS, Stata, or SAA
  • Develop inventory control procedures to monitor supply levels, allocate costs and ensure supplies are ready when needed.
  • Obtain bids, and make purchasing decisions within delegated authority.
  • Develop inventory policies to ensure that levels are maintained in a cost effective way.
  • Develop relationships with medical equipment and simulation technology vendors to gain their support to supply goods and services in support of medical training
  • Review annual expenses and manage budget within delegated authority.
  • Perform market research to understand current practices in medical simulation training.
  • Develop, update and implement marketing plans.
  • Plan and implement special projects
  • Support the development and writing of IRB and generated grants
  • Identify and pursue grants/partnership funding opportunities for institutional collaboration and research applications in simulation-based learning and evaluation and institutional patient safety
  • Conduct tours of the facility
  • Promote training services to external healthcare and emergency response organizations
  • Develops budget and reviews expenditure on a monthly basis for communication with Internal College of Medicine Finance.
  • Provide summaries of operational expenses, class attendance, equipment usage and equipment repair as input to monthly, quarterly and or annual plan development.
  • Performs other duties as directed or assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning tasks that are logically related.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Master’s degree in an appropriate specialization and two years of experience; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate specialization and four years of experience.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in a health or academic discipline preferred
  • Previous experience in grant writing and with the IRB process preferred

Qualifications:

  • Required Bachelor’s degree with a preference in computer technology or health related field.
  • Required five years of experience in learning based healthcare simulation technology.
  • Required proficiency in the use of audio/visual equipment (i.e., video cameras [GoPro, KB Port, REPLAY], monitors, microphones), including recording, duplication, and editing.
  • Required proficiency with PC applications such as Microsoft Office suite, and MAC applications.
  • Preferred Master’s or Advanced Degree in Technology or Health-related field.
  • Preferred proficiency with Laerdal, Gaumard and CAE patient simulators, software and hardware.
  • Preferred Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS).

Duties & Responsibilities:  Under the general joint supervision of the Dean of School of Health, Wellness, and Public Safety (HWPS) and the Chief Community Engagement Officer, oversees Central New Mexico Community College’s (CNM) health care programs located at CNM STEMulus and HWPS, including but not limited to simulation training, continuing education units (CEU), American Heart Association training center programs and other training / conferences / workshops.  The Director is responsible for administrative functions for the program.  These duties may include, but are not limited to, serving as a liaison among the students of the program, the faculty, and the College administration, as well as direct involvement in the development of employability of CNM’s students within the community. This position will be responsible for the development of new and additional programs and community growth. Additionally, this position will be involved in College initiatives designed at strategic goal development for within HWPS, CNM STEMulus, and the community.

Responsible for the ongoing/yearly organization, administration, coordination, and evaluation of all aspects of the program. Responsible for outcomes assessment, accreditation, and program development. Establishes / develops and maintains effective community partnerships in support of CNM STEMulus programs and the health care simulations for students. Responsible for publicity, fundraising and high level tours for simulation and other programs intended for external users. Partner with HWPS and CNM STEMulus faculty and staff in the development of laboratory / simulation, CEU and various training learning experiences / opportunities and curriculum.

Responsible for the management of CNM STEMulus instructors and all HWPS simulation lab staff and work-studies. Provides leadership, direction, and support to assigned staff. Responsible for the management of the simulation lab operations, including but not limited to, development, maintenance, and enforcement of policies and procedures for all simulation programs that will affect staff, faculty, students and external customers. Responsible for maintenance and effective operation  of the simulation lab equipment including, but not limited to, LearningSpace, Pyxis medication system, and Gaumard / Laerdal / CAE high fidelity mannequins.

Develops the budget for the CNM STEMulus programs and HWPS simulation labs and community programs.  Oversees department budget, and monitors expenditures to ensure adherence to College policies.  Forecasts and controls expenditures for the department by projecting department needs, justifying requests, allocating funds, revising priorities, and monitoring expenditures. This includes equipment purchases and repairs/maintenance.

Actively prospects and leverages potential new business opportunities within the healthcare arena.  Cultivates strong, long-term relationships with key decision-makers within the health care industry and develops deep knowledge of potential client organizations.  Analyzes potential opportunities and develops marketing strategies to promote CNM STEMulus health care programs. These duties can include, but are not limited to, oversight of simulation projects with community partners, and developing goals for programs intended for external users.

Minimum Requirements:  – A Master’s degree in simulation technology, health care profession, or a related field

  • At least three (3) years’ experience in simulation-based education and training, evaluation of outcomes, patient safety, and implementation of innovative simulation-based education and training programs necessary
  • This position requires a background check.
  • This position requires a current NM driver’s license.

You will be directly responsible for the business development of the Simulation Center by reaching out to community partners and developing income generating projects.

You will:

  • Oversee simulation training schedules
  • Run simulation training scenarios
  • Perform data analysis to evaluate simulation learning success and satisfaction
  • Allocate equipment and supplies used in simulation training sessions
  • Work with vendors to resolve issues

To qualify, you will have:
