National Sales Manager

Reporting to the General Manager of this niche medical simulation company the National Sales Manager is responsible for delivering the sales budget by developing a robust sales strategy, by leading a small team and by managing several accounts directly. The role holder will be part of the management team, and will be expected to contribute to the future strategic direction of the company.

Key Technical Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 Essential

  • Proven ability to sell to all levels within healthcare and/or healthcare education.
  • Ability to manage sales of a vast product range
  • Highly organized with planning and preparation.
  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience selling devices or consumables within the healthcare sector for a recognized ‘blue chip’ company, having benefited from their sales training program.
  • A minimum of 2 years as a sales manager, preferably in a major corporate, having benefited from solid in-house sales management training.
  • Informed approach to sales and sales management, including consultative selling, key account management and pipeline management.
  • People management experience, within a sales environment.
  • A high level of numeracy, literacy and e-literacy: able to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.

Job Description:

Provide healthcare support for experiential learning in the Simulation and Learning Resource programs. Essential Duties:

  • Restocks supplies in the various simulation/lab suites located in three Mercado Center buildings.
  • Assists with tours of the SLR for a variety of groups and organizations.
  • Supports staff and faculty during the planning and running of simulation events preparing, applications, props placement, and moulage set up to create a realistic healthcare setting.
  • Maintains and repairs (AV) media, computers, simulators, task trainers, and other necessary technologies utilized by the department.
  • Maintains records and supplies, equipment, and management of inventory tracking system of departmental equipment and maintenance of the assets of the Simulation & Learning Resources department.
  • Utilizes departmental specific software, databases, and websites as directed.
  • Assists with program software to model simulators’ physiological responses to instructor specifications.
  • Develops scheduling plans for repair and maintenance that accommodates the changing needs of the department.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates degree in technology or related field AND one year experience providing information technology services; OR, three years’ experience providing information technology services; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Certificates from recognized programs that indicate mastery of tools and techniques relevant to the assignment may substitute for up to six months of experience.

The NCEC is a joint effort between the Department of Nursing Services and Patient Care (DON) at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) and the College of Nursing (CON). Example of Simulation Lab Faculty, Staff and Learner Roles & Responsibilities Breakdown

Available below is one of numerous program policies and procedures guides our team developed while I was director of the  Clinical Simulation Center of Las Vegas. These guidelines were created in-order to maximize the results of simulated learning experiences, which requires the coordination of many “moving parts”. Here are a few excerpts from the document:

Staff responsibilities

  • Approve requested schedules. Verify schedule confirmation to faculty or notify of any conflicts.
  • Prepare necessary supplies, medications, IVs, etc for each scenario
  • Program the scenario
  • Conduct “dry run” of all new cases with each instructor
  • Prepare the simulation room and technology based on assigned cases for the day and faculty’s prep list

Learner responsibilities

  • Arrive on-time for Simulation. Note: consequences for late arrival will be determined by faculty
  • Maintain Dress Code as outlined in CSCLV Policy and Procedures
  • Watch Orientation Videos as appropriate
  • Demonstrate motivation and the necessary cognitive preparedness
  • Demonstrate professional behaviors as outlined in “Participation Agreement” & the CSCLV Learner Policies and Procedures manual.

Simulation instructor responsibilities

Prior to Sim Day:

  • Determine each semester who will be the instructor(s) for the semester
  • Schedule simulation days/times with CSCLV prior to the start of the semester
    • Include the instructor(s) who will be in attending the session
    • Include the scenario(s) to be used

On Sim Day:

  • Lead faculty must arrive at the Simulation Center ½ hour for huddle with staff before the first scenario is scheduled to begin. If faculty are more than 15 minutes late to huddle and do not provide notification, session can be cancelled by simulation staff.
  • Provide learners a brief orientation on their roles and responsibilities and the simulation area at the start of each day
  • Manage the live scenario from the Simulation Control room, and respond appropriate to learners’ actions. This may require altering the scenario as learners’ create their own experience.
  • Serve as the voice of the patient

  • Minimum one year’s professional experience in a hospital environment with significant exposure to direct patient care.

  • Assist in the selection of appropriate manikins, learning technologies, hardware and software for health program instruction.
  • Research and recommend emerging technologies and tools for use in classroom, online and laboratory settings.
  • Provide training and professional development in the use of simulation and technology for health science programs.
  • Develop curriculum, student learning outcomes and educational materials for simulation scenarios and scripts; support student learning experiences that involve technology applications including use of human patient simulators.
  • Facilitate collaboration among health science programs to optimize technology use.
  • Demonstrate an interest in professional development and use of instructional strategies to improve student learning.
  • Function as a member of the educational services team.

Job Title: Simulation Center Manager for Clinical Skills Center

Job Summary: The Simulation Center Manager assists with the implementation of simulation activities in the training of healthcare professionals.  They supervise the Simulation Center Specialist, Simulation Information and Technology Support, Administrative Assistant and faculty.  Overall duties include monitoring and controlling daily operations such as equipment and supply inventory, and coordinating the training of faculty on the use of simulation equipment and principles of simulation learning.

Qualifications:

  • Master in Nursing or in a Health Science field or Science.
  • Minimum of five years computer simulation experience in a clinical, medical, acute-care setting.
  • Prior experience using instructional technology.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software application relevant to simulator functions.
  • Plan, coordinate, organize, and manage the operation of a health science simulation laboratory.
  • Facilitate collaboration among health science programs to optimize technology use.
  • Experience in course development and education.

Job Title: Simulation Center IT Support Specialist for Clinical Skills Center
Job Summary: Reporting directly to the Manager, Simulation the Simulation Center Information

Technology Support assists the Simulation center staff in the day-to-day operation and troubleshoots malfunctions in low fidelity to high-fidelity medical simulation training equipment.  Integrates, maintains and operates the simulation computer and audio/video technology including the mannequins and surrounding equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field required.
  • Minimum two years computer simulation experience in a clinical, medical, acute-care setting.
  • Knowledge of medical simulation instructional technologies.
  • Basic knowledge of medical emergencies and terminology is preferred or a clinical background (Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, etc.).
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software application relevant to simulator functions and instructional technology.

Job Title:  Simulation Laboratory Technician
Job Summary: This position will provide technical support for all clinical simulation operations, including preparation, maintenance and repair of patient simulators (software and hardware) and related multimedia peripherals, also responsible for software programming of clinical scenarios.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree or 3 years in medical simulation field;
  • Two years of computer technology experience, preferably in healthcare setting;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or understanding of basic medical terms, procedures, or other health related field highly desirable
  • Medical simulation experiences a strong plus;
  • Paramedic/EMT or equivalent medical knowledge preferred.
  • Experience in course development and education methodology preferred.
