The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) is comprised of 12 hospitals and is one of the largest private, nonprofit health care providers in the mid-Atlantic region. We are currently seeking a Simulation Program Developer/Instructor to join our team in Linthicum Heights, MD.

The Simulation Program Developer/Instructor is responsible for the planning and implementation of educational programs with a primary focus on Emergency Medical Service (EMS) content and participants. This position develops and presents curriculum to educate EMS providers, other external agencies, and internal providers on airway management as well as other elements of emergency care of the ill and injured patient. This position also informs and educates Emergency Service community to the clinical services and resources available to the severely injured patient.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Health Services or related field required.
  • Certification as a National Registry Paramedic and Maryland Paramedic is required.
  • Minimum two (2) year experience as Advanced Life Support provider.
  • Experience with instruction of the adult learner required (evidence of training or certification in education/instruction preferred).
  • Background in paramedics or respiratory therapy is ideal.

Job Description: The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, invites applicants to apply for an instructor level faculty position beginning Spring 2017. This individual will be responsible for the management and teaching in the simulation center in the new Bachelor of Science in Nursing program (pending approval by the South Carolina State Board of Nursing).  The Citadel is a fully accredited, public, comprehensive, co-educational college with a student body of 2300 undergraduate and 1000 evening and graduate students. The department will be offering courses during the day to the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and Veteran students, and in the evening to students in our undergraduate evening program.  The primary role of the nursing faculty is in the education of students in the simulation center, working collaboratively with other nursing faculty.  The faculty member needs to have experience with simulation activities, including an understanding of the hardware and software associated with simulation. Salary and fringe benefits are competitive.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Nursing;
  • Unencumbered active license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of South Carolina or a Compact state;
  • Minimum of two years of experience in the primary area of responsibility (simulation).

Center for Medical Simulation Holds Instructor Workshop

Another note from Harvard’s Center for Medical Simulation for those clinical educators looking to receive simulation-based training.  CMS is holding an Instructor Workshop from October 2nd – 5th in New York.

CMS Faculty will be heading to New York where they’ll teach the internationally recognized Institute for Medical Simulation (IMS) “Simulation as a Teaching Tool” Simulation Instructor Workshop at the Institute for Medical Simulation and Learning (IMSAL)at the Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx.

Taught by CMS’ Harvard faculty, the Simulation as a Teaching Tool Workshop is a 4-day intensive immersion in healthcare simulation that is specifically designed for those educators seeking to develop high quality simulation programs. It covers high level elements and concepts involved in using simulation as a teaching tool.

The daily formats vary and include simulation scenarios, lectures, small and large group discussions, and practical exercises with feedback. Ample opportunities are provided for networking and sharing experiences. Attendees join a growing community of Institute graduates who are positioned as leaders in the field.
