Who Should Attend SimGHOSTS Events?

Anyone responsible for the technical operation of a medical simulation lab including full-time or part-time Sim Techs, or clinical educators tasked with operating the day-to-day of simulation spaces. As well, anyone evaluating medical-simulation based technology should strongly consider attending as most major industry vendors are encouraged to attend.

Other meetings are better suited for clinical educators specifically looking to learn how to teach with medical simulation.

*New Thought for 2016* Administrators of simulation programs should also consider sending their institution’s AV and IT related staff members who are responsible for supporting the simulation program. In our most recent events, staff from AV and IT departments outside of the healthcare simulation program found immense benefit from participating in SimGHOSTS to better understand the needs of their institution’s simulation program!

SimGHOSTS events provide hands-on training workshops, special pre-symposium courses and podium presentations in:

  • Manikin Programming & Hardware Repair
  • A/V System Design, Integration and Consolidation
  • IT Networking & Debugging
  • Trauma & Suturing Moulage Makeup
  • Video Production & Editing Techniques
  • Team Communication & Leadership
  • Medical Pharmacology for Scenarios

METI’s HPSN Meeting Banner

Hey Sim Champs!

The first conference I ever attended when I started my career in medical simulation was METI’s Western Regional Human Patient Simulation Network Meeting in San Francisco many years ago.  I learned a great deal about best practices in a variety of subjects, from moulage to METI software, debriefing practices and everything in-between! What is great about these meetings are they are “non-denominational”, meaning you can learn a great deal about simulation even if you are not specifically a METI user.  In other words, the HPSN meeting is education-based, not METI-based. Click the banner below to learn more!

“HPSN is the premier education conference for medical simulation users with leaders from all ends of the globe coming to take part in this incredible learning event. This year’s Western Regional HPSN is being hosted by Swedish Medical Center, Seattle University and METI and is offered for FREE to anyone interested in medical simulation and education. Don’t miss this opportunity to attend workshops, plenary sessions and network with medical education simulation experts in a casual, cooperative and informative setting.”

METI is sponsoring the new banner ad seen on the upper right hand corner of the right column of HealthySimulation.com – which enables this website to continue to provide all the best news, product previews, advice for the medical simulation community – and remain FREE! Special thanks to Richard Kuschinsky, Doug Underwood and METI for their support of HealthySimulation.com!

METI HPSNs are a great meeting for Simulation Champions and I highly recommend them! Click the banner above to learn more….

Reflection on the Future of the Healthcare Simulation Industry

Not too long ago I attended Laerdal’s SUN Conference in San Diego and was asked to share my unique background and my thoughts about the future of Healthcare Simulation.  Check it out:

NLN Technology Conference

The 5th NLN Technology Conference will take place from October 29 to 31, 2010 at Fairbanks Hall on the Indiana University Campus in Indianapolis.  Mary Anne writes us:

“I know you will be inspired by our keynote speaker, Diane Skiba, as well our other distinguished technology experts: Diane Billings, Helen Connors, Janet Grady, and Pam Jeffries. Concurrent sessions cover a variety of topics including eICUs, eLearning, unfolding cases studies, using simulation for high stakes assessment, and social networking.

For those with a special interest in simulation, Fairbanks Hall is the home of a brand new state-of-the-art simulation multidisciplinary simulation center.  We will be conducting tours of this center and the simulation/learning resources center at the Indiana University School of Nursing.  Please visit http://www.nln.org/facultydevelopment/Conferences/Technology/index.htm for more information.

Also note that we are offering a workshop conducted by Pam Jeffries and Scott Engum on how to design interdisciplinary simulations.  (http://www.nln.org/facultydevelopment/Workshops/InterdisciplinarySimulations/index.htm).

A second preconference event is designed for those who wish to explore using handheld devices, including the new iPAD, for classroom and clinical. (http://www.nln.org/facultydevelopment/Workshops/MobileTechnology/index.htm).

Celebrate Halloween with the technology experts and get current on rapidly evolving technology developments so you can prepare your students to function in today’s technology-rich health care environment.”
