Debra Nestel is the Professor of Simulation Education in Healthcare at Monash University, Australia. She is also the Editor in Chief of the new Advances in Simulation, a new open access journal associated by the Society in Europe for Simulation Applied to Medicine (SESAM). More on that soon!
Recently Debra shared with HealthySim about The Virtual Simulated Patient Network (VSPN) website, which was established to create a network of individuals with a special interest in simulated patient (SP) methodology. The VSPN offers online modules on various aspects of working with SPs involved in health and social care professional education. The modules are likely to be of interest to simulation educators, technicians, SPs and to some extent learners involved in undergraduate and postgraduate training in all health professional disciplines.
The VSPN aims to provide individuals interested in simulated patient (SP) practice with a network to share with and from each other. SPs are individuals trained to portray real patients. SPs contribute to health professional education in many ways. There is a spectrum of SP practices that are expanding. The VSPN aims to connect SPs, educators, students, clinicians and others through this website.
The website is free and aims to share information about this modality from many simulation champions in the field. Earlier this year the VSPN crossed over 500 members who come from every continent!
